Revolutionizing care on Labor and Delivery
Cervical Dilation Measurements
The cervix is the door to the uterus that opens during labor to accommodate the infant coming down the birth canal. Before labor, the cervix is closed. During labor, the cervix opens or "dilates." Health care practitioners including obstetricians, midwives, and nurses can check the cervix to assess the progress of labor. Most decisions during labor are made based on the progress of cervical dilation. However, our current methods of measuring dilation are subjective and only about 50% accurate. When two practitioners check the cervix, their measurements agree only about 50% of the time.
Given the importance of cervical dilation measurements, leaders in the field of Obstetrics have long called for a better way to measure dilation. Elm Tree Medical is excited to introduce an easy, low risk device to improve the accuracy and precision of cervical dilation measurements, both in prenatal clinics and Labor and Delivery units.
